Interview: Gary Arndt of Everything-Everywhere.com

Here is the first in our series of brief interviews with influential Travel Bloggers. This week’s interview is with Gary Arndt of Everything-Everywhere.com. Gary has been blogging his way around the world since deciding to leave his old life behind in 2007. He has visited 60 countries and taken countless inspiring photographs. His blog is hugely successful and was recently named one of the 25 best blogs of 2010 by Time Magazine.

What is your first memory of traveling?

It was probably a vacation my family took to Mackinac Island in Michigan.

Is there anywhere you wouldn’t ever travel to (or return to)?

There isn’t anywhere I would refuse to go back to, but there are places that I would be very low on my list. As a general rule, I’d rather go somewhere I haven’t been before.

What one tip would you give those writing about travel?

Travel alone, don’t stay in high end or chain hotels, and don’t take organized tours

Do you write as you travel or wait until you return?

There is no real return for me, so I am always blogging as I travel.

Who inspires you to write?

The places I’ve been and the people I meet are my inspiration.

What, other than a passport, can you not travel without?

A laptop :)

Are you an organized traveler or do you wander?

Considering that I don’t know where I’ll be in a few months, I’d say I am a wanderer.

Many thanks to Gary for agreeing to take part. The second installment of this feature will be posted next week.
