I’m not a car person, I never had posters of Ferrari F40s on my wall and I didn’t have that many toys cars. I don’t know anything about engines or what torque means. I find cars annoying - they always breakdown and they are really expensive to run (especially here in the UK).
The one thing I like about cars is that they take you places. I remember the feeling of getting my license and feeling that I could go wherever I wanted, whenever I wanted. I didn’t need to book tickets or ask for lifts any more the world (or at least the bits I could reach on a tank of petrol) was mine.
A car means freedom.
I’m sure I’ve blogged about it before but I hope to one day be able to go on an epic road trip, preferably in a car like the one above.Did you know that the UK is only 874 miles long? The idea of a ‘cross country’ road trip works better in the USA than it does in England.
So the plan is this: get a cheap flight to the west coast of America, buy a cheap car or find a car hire company who let you drop off on the other side of the country, get driving. I also need a girl to sit in the passenger seat and read maps, applicants must look good with the wind in their hair ;)

Neat!

Reading Terminal Market - Philadelphia, PA

projectjenny:

If you are ever in Philly you must stop at the Reading Terminal Market. It is an amazing six block showcase of local merchants selling a selection of baked goods, meats, poultry, seafood, produce, flowers, ethnic foods, wine, cookware and more!

I’ve been in a couple times before, but yesterday we swung through yet again to see what we could discover.

First stop was lunch at the Hatville Deli where we had decent turkey sandwiches on fresh wheat bread. Come to find out, it’s an Amish deli based out of Lancaster, PA (aka Dutch Country). I’ve never had Amish deli meat before, but it was quite fresh and tasty.

Next stop was at The Famous 4th Street Cookie Co. where I purchased 8 cookies of 4 different kinds. Check out all their amazing kinds of homemade cookies here. My favorite so far is the cinnamon oatmeal.

Third stop was Giunta’s Prime Shop where I made a rather impulsive decision to buy a rotisserie chicken! They smelled divine and I’ve never seen chicken seasoned so well. I couldn’t resist and I knew it would make a great dinner so I got one, for $9.95!

Last stop was at Kauffman’s Lancaster County Produce  where Heather purchased Jake & Amos fig jam. Fig jam is awesome with cheese and honey or spread on bread or pita.

Other things I’ve tried —I’ve had amazing coffee with an almond croissant, I’ve purchased crafts and candy, and Heather even bought a wine rack. They have cooking classes, wine tastings, and a Sunday farmers market July - November. The Reading Terminal Market certainly has a lot to offer and it’s fun to try new places each time you pass through!

City Guide: Tampa

The city of Tampa is situated in the Tampa Bay area, on Florida’s west coast, and it’s packed with attractions. One of the most famous of these is BuschGardens (don’t let the rubbish web site put you off, I went to BG last year and it was great) , a must-see attraction for anyone visiting Florida for its theme parks. Busch Gardens includes animal encounters and a “safari”, as well as rollercoasters and other rides. Other family attractions in Tampa include the Florida Aquarium, Lowry Park Zoo, Big Cat Rescue and Dinosaur World.

Tampa is known as a city of culture and its museums and galleries include the Museum of Science and Industry, the Henry B. Plant Museum and the Tampa Museum of Art. Sports lovers will enjoy a trip to the Raymond James Stadium, home to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers football team, and there are also a number of excellent golf courses in and around the city. Some of Florida’s best beaches, including Clearwater Beach and St. Petersburg Beach, are also within easy reach of Tampa.

Whist Tampa has a public transport infrastructure including a streetcar (tram) line, most visitors opt for car hire as the best method of travel. The city covers almost 60 square miles and is surrounded by interesting places to visit so having a car is the easiest option. I stayed with friends when I visited Tampa so I can’t recommend any hotels but Tampa has a strong reputation as a tourist destination so there is a great deal of choice.
