The Neon Boneyard in Las Vegas
The city was built on neon – and extraordinarily, much of it still exists. You just gotta know where to look.
Visit Las Vegas and spend your time in a museum? Well, yes… when it’s as electric as this one. The city’s ‘Neon Boneyard’ – so-nicknamed because the downtown lot looks like a cemetery for old signs – is worth a stop even if just in town for the weekend.
Made up of hundreds of neon displays, it’s a living gallery devoted to Vegas’s one indigenous art form. And until someone opens a Museum of Dancing Girls and Slot Machines (which they probably will), it’s the most entertaining slice of history in town…
The Neon Museum is open for guided tours only, which run Tuesdays to Saturdays (minimum donation $15). Places must be reserved in advance: www.neonmuseum.org.
